According to the American Heartworm Society, Heartworms have spread to all 50 United States and throughout the world. Particularly, Heartworm Disease can be most commonly found in the South, which means pet owners in Brevard County should stay educated on the prevention of this disease!
Heartworm Disease is known to cause severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs. The importance of Heartworm Prevention is at an all time high.
Heartworm Disease: How Can I Prevent It?
Mosquitoes are known to carry heartworm disease from one pet to another, so it is important to try and minimize your pet’s exposure to them. Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets can all catch the disease. Making sure your pet stays clear of mosquito prone places, such as standing water, can help protect your pet from contracting the disease. The water source can be as small as a puddle in your backyard, or as big as a local lake.
