Dr. Jeffrey Jacobs
DVM

Dr. Jeffrey Jacobs earned his DVM from the University of Florida in 2022. With a passion for exotics, he has supplemented his education with courses and clinical rotations at the University of Florida’s Zoologic Medicine department, along with externships at Zoo Miami and Loggerhead Marine Life Sea Turtle Center. Additionally, he holds an Aquatic Animal Health Certification from the University of Florida.

From a young age, Dr. Jacobs knew he wanted to work with animals. His fascination with biology, chemistry, and medicine, coupled with a curiosity about how things work, drove him towards veterinary medicine. As a former veterinary technician, he witnessed firsthand the significant impact veterinary care can have on pets, their families, and the community. During veterinary school, he focused on exotic and zoo animal medicine to address the often-overlooked needs of non-traditional pets like rabbits, lizards, and birds.

Dr. Jacobs shares his life with his fiancé, Dr. Danford, who works at the Viera location. They met in veterinary school and were drawn to Island Animal Hospital for its quality of medicine, modern equipment, and incredible team. They have a Golden/Corgi mix named Raleigh, two domestic shorthair cats named Nori and Tuna, and a Leopard Gecko named Plumb. The most rewarding part of Dr. Jacobs’ career is making a life-changing difference for both animals and their caretakers. In his free time, he enjoys scuba diving, playing games with friends, boating, and computer design.
